Cultural Sunday

Every 2nd Sunday of the month there is a Cultural Sunday with variable offerings. Participants can participate flexibly whenever they want. There are also not only (fixed) locations, such as galleries, churches and museums, but also activities such as music, theater, dance, film, workshops, lending at changing or pop-up locations.

Also, there is no set route. Through the website you can decide where you want to go. From the first day of each month the complete program is online. The participants and locations can be recognized by a blue flag.

New Participant in Cultural Sunday

On August 9, 18 cultural venues in Gorcum’s city center will be open to the public free of charge from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. At number 27 on Zusterstraat, the 22nd participant—Inge Cremer’s studio—will open its doors. She works primarily with felt and organizes workshops.

At the In de Toren meditation center, Gorcum-based painter Bert Welmers is exhibiting his distinctive cityscapes. At the Grote Kerk, a retrospective exhibition celebrating 20 years of Outsider Art is on view until 4:00 p.m. The Hamel Museum is also featuring works by these remarkable artists in an exhibition titled “Hello, Mr. Hamel.” As a result, the studio on Zusterstraat will be closed this Sunday.

The Kruitmagazijnen on Dalemwal is hosting the exhibition “Verknippend Opbouwen” by Ruben Stallinga. His work is characterized by the abstract, uninhibited way in which he perceives the world. Gallery de Burgpoort on Burgstraat features two new artists. Patricia Scholten creates mixed-media and paper art, and Anémone de Castro paints acrylic works that invite reflection. Next door at Galerie Sterke Kunst, new and surprising artworks made from various materials are available for purchase, as they are at Galerie Zeven en Twintig and, a little further down Kalkhaven, at Marleen van Zwienen’s studio. In the former Roxy movie theater on Appeldijk, Anja Kok, Miriam Kocken, and Rob Veenendaal are personally presenting new work, which is also for sale.

Admission to both museums is free. In addition to its permanent collection, which tells the story of the discoverer of Korea, the Hamel Museum is currently hosting an exhibition of Outsider Art. At the Gorcum Museum, visitors can explore the exhibition “The City as a Canvas—From the Museum to the Neighborhood.” This exhibition examines how our city has developed under the influence of public housing. Additionally, the exhibition “Rooted in Gorcum” focuses on migrant workers in Gorinchem.

On Langendijk, there’s also a new exhibition at the Kunst bij Karel gallery, featuring the oil paintings of Monique Adriaansen. Cultural Sunday is the perfect opportunity to find original, artistic gifts. In the lower town, the Wereldwinkel, Galerie Ariena Ruwaard, the “Tussen Kunst en klei” gallery, and the De Juf antiquarian bookstore also offer surprising gifts. There, Marieke van Oosten has once again created new bags from original 1960s and 1970s fabric. At the Stadsboerderij, other guests are exhibiting alongside the work of Jolanda Hulshof.

Molen De Hoop will be closed for the next few months due to maintenance. De Weverij is closed for vacation, as are the three music venues, but the lively Meezing Café can be heard playing in one of the squares or streets. The galleries and studios flying the famous blue flag are open. Round out your day in a cozy atmosphere at the Caponnière. This old artillery bunker features photographs by Dinne van Rongen.
