Taste the Biesboschlinie
The Biesboschlinie is the region in northwestern North Brabant and includes the entire municipality of Altena: from fortified town of Woudrichem to National Park De Biesbosch and the only Brabant part of Holland's Waterlinies Unesco World Heritage Site. It is also a region where we love good and healthy food. In the Biesbosch Line there are many local entrepreneurs and producers who are committed to delicious and honest products. This we would like you to taste and experience at the Foodtour Biesboschlinie on Monday, March 2, 2026. Please register via info@biesboschlinie.com. At the bottom of this page you will find the full program, including times, tastings and stops.
This tour takes place on the occasion of the Brabant Hospitality Award, which challenges entrepreneurs to consciously further develop their hospitality. In this way, they not only work on their own growth, but also contribute to a strong, future-proof sector. Six organizations from the leisure sector in the municipality of Altena participate in this award, an initiative of Brabant Partners (Visit Brabant). In the coming months they will take concrete steps to strengthen their hospitality and prepare themselves for the guest of the future, with practical assignments and challenges.
Matching the second challenge of the award, we organize this local food tour for all Brabant participants. During the tour we will visit several companies where entrepreneurs from Altena and the rest of Brabant can buy local products directly. This way they get acquainted with the meal of tomorrow, and hopefully the guest of tomorrow will soon do the same.
Delicious and honest products
More taste at the Buffelgaard
We start the Biesboschlinie food tour at Richard and Monique Verschure's Buffelgaard in Wijk en Aalburg. Buffalo milk is very creamy and, compared to cow's milk, contains a higher fat, protein and calcium content. In addition, buffalo milk is low in cholesterol and can be tolerated by most people with a cow's milk allergy and/or lactose intolerance.
Buffalo meat is also rich in vitamins and minerals and contains more iron. You taste this among other things in their mozzarella, feta, yogurt, cheese, buttermilk, chocolate milk and kaymak. Or how about buffalo chocolates, a buffalo entrecôte, schnitzel, sausage or buffalo meatballs?
In the yard of the Buffelgaard you will also meet Anita and Albert Bin of The Honey Bin. Since 1998 they have been working as beekeepers with love and great pleasure. Since 2013 they have lived in the same polder as the Buffelgaard, where they run the most beautiful honey shop in the Netherlands.
The hives of The Honey Bin are located in several places in the Netherlands. As a result, they produce tasty honey from Altena, from the Biesbosch, but also honey from Halsteren. They also make unique honey products, such as soap, salve and honey candles: a delicious treat or indulgence for your guests.
It's also worth sampling a glass of De Kornsche Wijngaard from Dussen. Vineyard owner Eli Smits is happy to take you through the taste of the region. Will you go for the Rooie from Dusse or does the white appeal more to you? These local wines, straight from De Kornsche Wijngaard, are sold and served locally.
In the polder opposite the Buffelgaard, you will find Lisanne and Mark's unique orchard Pears & Partridges. In their pear orchard they invest in drinking, hiding and feeding places for the wild partridge. They stand for nature-inclusive work.
On Monday, March 2, they will also be guests at the Buffalo Orchard with their fresh juices for you to taste, discover and experience. The pear juices are available in 1 liter and 0.25 liter bottles and are used in the catering industry or are nice as part of gift and regional packages.
Unique quality and special flavors
The second stop on the Biesboschlinie food tour is at Bierbrouwerij De Magistraat in Almkerk. This artisan craft beer brewery produces classic beer styles and is located in a 17th-century farmhouse. Here we are proud to let you taste award-winning beers from their own brewery.
No beer on an empty stomach, which is why we also present here a tasting of a new and special product from the region: the Biesboschlinie sandwich. This sandwich is the result of a collaboration between VVV Biesboschlinie and Spar Andel. We join forces to also give regional products a place on a tasty sandwich and thus tell the story of our region.
This product will conquer the market next season, but first it has to pass the taste challenge. Taste the first variations at our food tour. In addition, the Biesboschlinie sandwich is looking for customers: who will have the taste of this special Biesbosch region on their plate this summer? Where do you experience the taste of Altena, or do you pamper your guests with a local offering? Come hear about the possibilities.
