Groesplaat nature reserve

The Groesplaat consists of 120 ha and is the catchment area of the Oudendijk gully. In the area live plenty of black-tailed godwits, redshanks and cormorants and graze herds of horses and cows.

This "concurrent side channel" helps the Merwede drain excess water at high tide. At high tide, the river deposits seeds, producing unusual flora.
