The castle has seen a lot over the centuries. The original keep, a four-story residential tower, was expanded into a castle during the late Middle Ages. Over time, various noble families had the building modified and expanded. This led, among other things, to the creation of the characteristic wings and the distinctive Tuscan colonnade.
The history of Kasteel Dussen is also closely tied to the water and the wars that have shaped the area. Among other things, the castle weathered the Saint Elizabeth’s Flood and various wars. From 1954 to 1997, the building served as the town hall.
