The Mill Foundation Land of Heusden and Altena

The mills in the Biesboschlinie are managed by the Molenstichting Het Land van Heusden en Altena. The foundation is committed to the future of the mills in Altena.

"That's more than just making sure the blades have a good coat of paint. Of course we have a lot of contact with government agencies, about subsidies and tenders, and we monitor the wind right of the mills. This age-old right means that no construction is allowed in the vicinity of mills, so that they keep 'the wind in the sails'. We also feel responsible for a sustainable future. You can see the mills in Altena as living museums, but that doesn't mean they only tell us about the past. They can once again play a role in sustainable water management and also offer us a wealth of knowledge about it. It is important to transfer that knowledge to new generations, and we want to contribute to that with education."

QR Heritage Mill Trail

The millers are the ambassadors of the mills. With great knowledge, full of love and enthusiasm for 'their' mill and the miller's profession, they spend hours every week keeping the mills running and welcoming visitors. The QRfgoed Molentocht takes you past all the mills of Altena. Visit when the sails are turning - that's when the mill is open. There is nothing like seeing the mill "live" in operation and hearing the miller tell the story. Also pick up the route booklet with stamp card inside and collect all the mill stamps of Altena.
